I am a student-centered educator with over ten years experience teaching writing and literature courses, and eighteen years experience as a Youth Services librarian providing programming, community outreach and readers advisory for grades K-12. I also have two years experience working in a college writing center.
I currently have my MLS (2007) from Queens College and a MA (2022) from St. John’s University.
The reason I choose a holistic approach is because it allows students to be active participants in their own learning. Students have diverse reading/writing experiences, that’s why including multimodal learning (when a number of our senses such as visual, auditory, kinaesthetic – are being engaged during learning, we understand and remember more), is also important; Students/clients learn and understand literacy in different ways.
I started The Holistic Writing Tutor because I want to help writers and readers from middle school through college (and beyond!), reach their goals and become more mindful of their literacy habits; Our writing experiences shape the way we understand literacy. I want students and business professionals to reach their full potential in the areas of reading and writing, helping them understand that the entire process of writing is important, not just the finished product or the ‘final draft.’
This online space is about learning to work through our writing struggles, create healthy, less stressful habits – and have fun doing it!
When working with clients/students, I understand that accessibility and patience are key to growth and success.
